Rationale:
How can integrating technology in the classroom support students' literacy skills?
Rationale:
- I wanted to learn how to use and integrate the most effective Web 2.0 tools due to the emphasis on the new Common Core standards which requires classrooms to integrate technology with student learning. I also wanted to equip my students with the best tools available to master the 21st century skills needed to be successful in their future careers. Since my master's concentration is K-12 reading and the school I work at has low performing reading scores, I specifically wanted to explore technology that assisted with the development of literacy skills.
- In order for schools to create a rigorous curriculum that includes global learning skills teachers must be given the correct tools to use in their classrooms. It is important that all children receive the same opportunities for technology integration; regardless of the school they attend. Although my school doesn't have iPads for every student, Smart Boards in every classroom, nor flip cameras for every teacher, I wanted to find a way to expose my students to these tools to support their literacy skills. The concept of teaching students about online safety, online reading comprehension skills, and incorporating game based learning at an early age is essential to bridge the academic gaps that have been seen throughout research studies.
